ABB ACS800 is high power, high capacity AC drive. This particular drive was working in a critical part of a power plant driving a high power compressor. Due to a challenging working environment: high ambient temperature and frequent stops and starts, the drive failed destroying its power stack and bus bar system. Its rated power is 450kW so fault currents did a lot of damage before it was isolated.
Data Factory re-built the damaged bus bar and power section. We tested subsections of the drive off circuit using a unique testing technique which enables us to detect if a repaired section still has problems before an installation into the main drive.
Once re-assembled the drive was tested without load and then loaded for a number of hours.
We have captured circuitry of the drive sub-systems and collected a cache of spare components and software tools to make next repair less time consuming.
